As of October 2026, the most expensive necklace in the world is A Heritage in Bloom by Hong Kong jewellery artist Wallace Chan, valued at an estimated $200 million. The highest valued diamond necklace on public record is Mouawad’s L’Incomparable at $55 million, while the auction record for a jadeite necklace is $27.44 million.

Some prices below are auction results and others are valuations by makers or owners. We say which is which for each piece, because a valuation is not the same as a price someone has paid.

1. A Heritage in Bloom: about $200 million

Wallace Chan created this necklace for the Hong Kong jeweller Chow Tai Fook. Its diamonds were cut from the 507-carat Cullinan Heritage rough diamond, which Chow Tai Fook bought for $35.3 million in 2010, and together they weigh 383.4 carats.

The design also uses jadeite and other gems, and the piece can be taken apart and worn in 27 different ways. It has never been sold, so the $200 million figure is an estimate of its value rather than a price paid.

2. L’Incomparable: $55 million

The centre stone of L’Incomparable is a 407.48-carat brownish-yellow diamond. The rough stone was reportedly found by a young girl in a pile of mining rubble in the Democratic Republic of Congo in the 1980s.

Lebanese jeweller Mouawad set it in rose gold with 91 white diamonds, for a total of about 637 carats. In 2013 Guinness World Records recognised it as the most valuable necklace, at $55 million.

3. Marie Antoinette’s pearl pendant: about $36 million

This natural pearl and diamond pendant once belonged to Marie Antoinette, the last queen of France before the French Revolution. It was part of the royal jewels of the Bourbon-Parma family offered at Sotheby’s Geneva in November 2018.

The pre-sale estimate was $1 million to $2 million. Bidding pushed the final price to about $36 million, one of the highest prices ever paid for a pearl jewel at auction.

4. Hutton-Mdivani jadeite necklace: $27.44 million

This necklace has 27 large jadeite beads with a clasp by Cartier. American businessman Franklyn Laws Hutton gave it to his daughter, the heiress Barbara Hutton, for her wedding to Prince Alexis Mdivani in 1933.

It sold at Sotheby’s Hong Kong in April 2014 for $27.44 million. The buyer was Cartier. Guinness World Records lists it as the most expensive jade jewellery sold at auction.

5. Heart of the Ocean (Harry Winston): $20 million

The film Titanic (1997) made the fictional “Heart of the Ocean” necklace famous. After the film’s success, several real versions were made, from cheap replicas to serious jewels.

The most valuable is the Harry Winston version, set with a heart-shaped blue diamond and valued at $20 million. Singer Celine Dion wore it at the Academy Awards in 1998. A separate version by Asprey and Garrard was reportedly valued at about $2.2 million.

6. Heart of the Kingdom: $14 million

London jeweller Garrard made this necklace around a 40.63-carat heart-shaped Burmese ruby with the deep red colour that the trade calls “pigeon’s blood”. It is surrounded by about 155 carats of white diamonds.

The piece is valued at $14 million. Large Burmese rubies of this quality are rarer than diamonds of a similar size, which explains much of the value.

7. Leviev vivid yellow diamond pendant: $10 million

Diamond businessman Lev Leviev’s company produced this pendant around a 77.12-carat vivid yellow diamond from one of his own mines. White diamonds frame the centre stone.

Leviev has valued it at $10 million. Because the figure comes from the owner, it should be read as a valuation rather than a market price.

8. Etcetera Burmese ruby necklace: $6.4 million

This necklace combines Burmese rubies with about 87 carats of diamonds in a drip design. It was reported to have sold for $6.4 million in November 2013, a high price for a ruby necklace at the time.

Why these necklaces cost so much

Three things drive the price of a top necklace. The first is the main stone: its size, colour, clarity and origin. The second is the maker, since names like Cartier, Harry Winston and Graff add value. The third is history, as shown by the Marie Antoinette pendant, which sold for many times its estimate.

Royal or celebrity ownership can multiply the price, and pieces with a documented history attract the strongest bidding at Christie’s and Sotheby’s.
