In brief
- Le Chocolate Box, priced at $1.5 million, is the most expensive chocolate item because it held real jewellery.
- Frrrozen Haute Chocolate at Serendipity 3 in New York costs $25,000.
- A 50 kg William Curley Easter egg sold for £7,000 at a 2012 charity auction.
- Regular luxury boxes from DeLafée, Debauve & Gallais and To’ak cost about $490 to $650.
As of October 2026, the most expensive chocolate ever offered for sale is Le Chocolate Box, a jewelled box priced at $1.5 million. For chocolate where the price is mainly for the food itself, the record is the $25,000 Frrrozen Haute Chocolate dessert at Serendipity 3 in New York.
Most luxury chocolate costs a few hundred dollars a box. Prices rise sharply when makers add edible gold, gold coins or real jewellery, or when a one-off piece is sold at a charity auction.
This updated list uses prices reported by Chowhound in 2025 and records confirmed by Guinness World Records. We removed one item from the older version of this article because we could not confirm its price.

1. Le Chocolate Box: $1.5 million

Le Chocolate Box was a limited edition created by Lake Forest Confections with Simon Jewelers. Each box held chocolates alongside diamond, ruby, emerald and sapphire jewellery, according to Chowhound.
Almost all of the $1.5 million price comes from the jewellery, not the chocolate. It shows how far a luxury gift box can go once gemstones are included.
2. Frrrozen Haute Chocolate: $25,000

Serendipity 3, the New York restaurant, created this frozen hot chocolate with jeweller Euphoria New York. It uses a blend of cocoas, 23-karat edible gold and a luxury truffle.
The dessert is sold by special order and is still one of the best-known luxury chocolate items. Most of the price comes from the gold and the jeweller’s involvement rather than the chocolate itself.
3. Golden Speckled Chocolate Egg: £7,000

British chocolatier William Curley designed this 50 kg Easter egg, and seven chocolatiers made it over three days at his kitchen in Twickenham. The shell used Amedei chocolate from the Chuao region of Venezuela.
It sold for £7,000 on 20 March 2012 at the Fabergé Big Egg Hunt charity auction in London, according to Guinness World Records. The buyer was technology investor Cyrus Vandrevala.
4. Cadbury Wispa Gold: $1,600

In 2009, Cadbury made a single Wispa Gold bar wrapped in edible gold leaf to mark the return of the brand. AOL News reported that it was priced at about $1,600, which made it one of the most expensive chocolate bars ever sold in a shop.
It was a one-off promotion rather than a regular product.
5. DeLafée Gold Chocolate Box: $647

Swiss chocolatier DeLafée sells boxes of chocolates decorated with 24-karat edible gold. Its top boxes include an antique 10-franc Swiss gold coin minted between 1911 and 1922.
Chowhound lists the boxes at CHF 475 (about $539) and CHF 570 (about $647). The versions with gold coins ship only within Switzerland.
6. Debauve & Gallais: $498

Debauve & Gallais is one of the oldest chocolate houses in Paris. Its largest gift box holds 252 pieces.
The box costs €459.72 (about $498) and comes in dark, milk, mixed or praliné. Flavours include coconut cream, ginger, hazelnut and chestnut honey.
7. To’ak Art Masters Series: $490

To’ak is an Ecuadorian brand that makes dark chocolate from Nacional cacao, a rare local variety found in old trees in a single valley.
Its Art Masters Series bar by artist Enriquestuardo costs $490 and comes with a print finished in gold leaf. An earlier art edition named after painter Oswaldo Guayasamín appeared on previous versions of this list. To’ak bars often cost more than $300, and one earlier edition passed $600.
8. MarieBelle Ganache Collection: $319

MarieBelle New York was founded by designer Maribel Lieberman and makes its chocolates at a factory in Brooklyn. Each ganache is printed with colourful artwork.
Its largest box holds 100 pieces in 22 flavours, some made with alcohol, and costs $319, according to Chowhound.
9. Vosges Haut-Chocolat: $200

Chicago chocolatier Vosges Haut-Chocolat, founded by chef Katrina Markoff, is known for unusual flavours such as lavender, chamomile, matcha and tulsi. It also sells gift sets with tea and bath salts.
Older lists quoted $325 for its Champagne and exotic truffle collection. Current gift sets cost about $105 to $200.
Other luxury chocolates worth knowing
Several other brands sell boxes in the $150 to $315 range. Richart’s chocolate and macaron gift basket costs $314, and Swiss maker Teuscher sells a 1.2 kg praline box for CHF 240 (about $271).
House of Knipschildt’s La Madeline au Truffe, a large truffle with a French Périgord truffle in the centre, costs about $250 and lasts only about a week. For more indulgent food, see our list of the most expensive desserts.
How we ranked these
We ranked chocolates by the highest price reported by a named source, including one-off and auction items. Prices for items still on sale come from Chowhound’s 2025 review, and dollar conversions are approximate.
Items 1 to 4 were limited editions, so you cannot buy them today. The rest are regular products whose prices may change with cocoa costs. If you prefer luxury in a cup, our most expensive coffees list covers similar ground.
