Only a few media franchises have had the same amount of success as Yu-Gi-Oh! It launched with a captivating trading card game and an anime series based on the game, set in an imaginative, mythology-inspired universe where the monsters on the cards come to life. In this article, we are going to discuss 10 of the most expensive Yugioh cards of all time.
To mention a few pillars of the empire, this one-two punch immediately captured young followers and launched an entire mythos of Yu-Gi-Oh! shows, films, video games, and memorabilia. There are a few select trading cards that have achieved attention for their value and rarity, just as there are a few select trading cards that have gained hype for their value and rarity in the Pokemon and comparable franchises.
While some of the most valuable ones were exclusively given out as prizes in tournaments, this was not always the case. We have curated a list of the 10 most expensive Yugioh cards of all time below.
Table of Contents
Take a look at our list of the 10 most expensive Yugioh cards of all time:
1. Tournament Black Luster Soldier
The Black Luster Soldier was an exclusive prize card awarded during the first-ever Yu-Gi-Oh! the tournament in 1999, and is easily the most valuable card on this list. It is printed on stainless steel and is one of a kind, making it basically priceless due to its sought rarity.
Those who have put it up for sale (with just rumors verifying the price) have sought millions of dollars. To put it another way, anyone who gets this card by chance has practically won the Yu-Gi-Oh! Lottery.
2. 2002 Blue-Eyes White Dragon 1st Edition PSA 10
Possibly the most well-known card in the Yu-Gi-Oh! universe. Blue-Eyes White Dragon is a prominent series known for its strength in the trading card game — combining three of them creates Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon — as well as its powerful appearances in the original anime and manga.
The first of these cards were produced in Japan in 1999, followed by the United States shortly after, and first editions in mint condition are now quite valuable. (One father went viral after selling a few to fund his daughter’s education!)
3. DARK MAGICIAN LOB 1ST EDITION
Dark Magician is well known as the favorite card of protagonist Yugi Muto in the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime and trading card games. A PSA 10 gem mint condition copy of the card, which was printed in the Legend of Blue-Eyes White Dragon series, was auctioned for $85,000 / £65,000 in June 2021. Making it one of the most amazing Yugioh cards of all time.
4. 2002 LOB 1st Edition Exodia The Forbidden One PSA 10
This card has a total PSA 10 population of 82, with 365 of them graded. This equates to a 25% gem rate, making this card difficult to grade and highly sought after whenever a PSA 10 becomes available.
This card was one of ten Ultra Rares in the Yugioh TCG’s first expansion, Legend of Blue-Eyes White Dragon. This is one of the most widely played cards in the game.
5. 2004 Shonen Jump Championship Cyber-Stein PSA 10
Unlike the several regular variations of this Frankenstein-inspired card, the one worth a lot of money is — you got it — another tournament award edition. There are a little over a hundred of these cards in existence, all of which were awarded during the Shonen Jump Championship and a few others afterward.
Only 21 PSA 10 copies of this card exist, therefore they don’t come up for sale very frequently!
6. 1999 Perfectly Ultimate Great Moth No Red DDS Promo PSA 10
This card had a PSA population of just one when it was sold, but since then, two more PSA 10s have been added to the population report.
When one of them comes up for sale again, it’ll be fascinating to watch how that changes the price.
7. 2002 Dark Duel Stories Blue-Eyes White Dragon PSA 10
The promotional cards for Yu-Gi-Oh! Dark Duel Stories are a set of Prismatic Secret Rare cards included with the North American release of Yu-Gi-Oh! Dark Duel Stories.
This card has a PSA 10 population of only 131, making it extremely difficult to acquire. Making it one of the most expensive Yugioh cards of all time.
8. 2002 Morphing Jar Tournament Pack 2 PSA 10
The artwork on this card isn’t particularly noteworthy, yet it has become one of the most sought-after in the game. When Morphing Jar is used during a game, both players discard their cards and draw five new ones, which might be a sneaky excellent play when you’re up against the wall.
It’s no surprise that this tournament pack 2 promo card is so popular, with a PSA 10 population of only 24. There have only ever been 92 of them graded by PSA, so good luck locating one!
9. 2002 Tournament Pack 1 MECHANICALCHASER PSA 10
The Mechanicalchaser from the 2002 Tournament Pack 1 is incredibly uncommon, with just 25 PSA 10’s in existence and only 71 total that has been graded, similar to the previously mentioned Morphing Jar. Thus, it is one of the 10 most expensive Yugioh cards of all time.
10. 2003 Magician’s Force 1st Edition Dark Paladin Alternate Art PSA 10
One of the most useful cards in the game is the Dark Paladin. You can discard one card when a Spell Card is activated; negate the activation, and if you do, destroy it. To activate and resolve this effect, this card must be face-up on the field.
Only 44 of these cards have been graded, with only 12 PSA 10s, making it one of the most sought-after cards on the list.
Yu-Gi-Oh!, like many other trading card games, has evolved from a casual hobby enjoyed in playgrounds around the world to a significant collector’s market. Some of the most expensive Yugioh cards of all time are mentioned above.
